IPL Hair Reduction

Smooth skin awaits

Permanently reduce hair growth on the face

At Radiance Skin Clinic, Woodstock, Oxfordshire

Unwanted facial hair can be embarrassing and unsightly, but Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment can permanently reduce hair growth in the treated area. It works by using intense bursts of light energy to target hair follicles in the skin. This energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair and heats the follicle to a point where affects its ability to grow more hair.

Working at its best on darker hair colours, we can successfully and permanently reduce hair growth in the treated area. A full course of IPL hair reduction is recommended because this treatment is only effective on actively growing hair, which occurs in cycles. Around one third of hair can be treated at a time, so repeat treatments are often necessary.

  • IPL hair reduction is performed by our qualified aesthetic physician
  • Permanently reduces hair growth in the target area
  • Effective for those suffering symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Treatment is suitable for both men and women

One of the many benefits of IPL hair reduction is that there is no need to ‘save up’ your hair growth and limit your clothing or lifestyle choices. Because this treatment only works on growing hair follicles, we’d recommend shaving the treatment area 2-3 days before your appointment to ensure there are actively growing hairs.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    About IPL Hair Reduction
How is IPL Hair Reduction carried out?

First, we ask you to shave your treatment area a few days prior to treatment so the hair is growing when you meet us. We cleanse the area, apply a conductive gel to the surface, and select treatment settings according to your skin type and sensitivity. We then begin delivering the pulse of light when you are ready and settled and repeat until the target area is treated. Afterwards, we apply a cold pack to soothe any residual stinging sensations and apply an SPF 30 to protect the vulnerable skin.

When will I see my results?

This differs from client to client. Your optimal results depend on the size of the treatment area, hair colour, and strength of hair growth. At your initial consultation, we’ll examine your proposed treatment area and can give you a more accurate treatment estimation.

    Does this treatment hurt?

You may feel a hot, stinging sensation, but this is likened more to discomfort than pain. It has often been described as the ‘twang’ of an elastic band. The burst of light happens very quickly, so treatment can usually be carried out fairly efficiently. You can always take a break during treatment, and a cold pack is applied to the skin when we are finished to soothe any irritation.

Can I shave before my appointment?

Yes, we always ask our clients to shave a few days before the treatment. IPL hair reduction only works on actively growing hair, so this ensures that a healthy number of follicles are in their growth stage and able to be treated.

Does my skin type and colour influence this treatment?

This treatment is suitable for most lighter skin types that develop dark body or facial hair. For those with darker skin, pigmentation changes are a potential risk, so we would recommend not undergoing this treatment.
